COLIN CHRISTIAN

'Solaris Pilot' fiberglass 48" by 48".

Hi Colin, you were born in London on March 30th 1964 and now live in Tampa, FL with your wife Sas.
You're both artists, so you live and work together. When did you start to work together?

Sas and I have worked along side each other for 10 years but always on our own projects, now we have just started working on a single piece together and we are both very happy with the results.

'Hardcore Pink' fiberglass & silicone 45".

Who is "Suki"?

She was the first large scale fiberglass figure I ever produced, an anime girl 7 ft tall, she got it all started.

What was the first museum you came in with your sculptures?

I had a piece in the Museum of Sex in NY and at the Bristol museum in the UK this year.

'F**K Yeah' 9ft fiberglass and silicone.

You describe yourself as "rather intolerant of stupidity, ignorance and intellectual laziness" and say that for that reason you find most religious people annoying.
Are you talking about something in particular?

I have a problem with anyone who believes in something but knows nothing about the actual subject they supposedly have faith in.
It is important to ask questions about everything.

"F*** You!" 9' tall, fiber glass and silicone.

Your 5 favorite bands.

Radiohead,The Beatles,Lemon Jelly,Zero 7 and David Bowie.

"F*** You!" 9' tall, fiber glass and silicone.

Are you a naturalist?

I do study animals, yes, if you mean Naturist, yes but only at home.

'Solaris Small Bust' Swarovski , over 16,000 crystals applied by Sas onto his sculpture.

What do you usually love to read?

Usually science based, evolution studies, cosmology, some physics and as many movie books as I can get my hand on.

juicy cherry or big banana? 4ft tall fiberglass and silicone.

What's your latest sculpture and how long did it take to create it?

The last piece I finished was called 'Queenie', she took around 2 weeks.

Where do you find the right inspiration for your artworks?

Watching animal documentaries, old scifi movies and reading...

In 2004 you started using silicone in your sculptures.
How did it change your way of working and the final result?

Silicone is a very difficult medium to get right.
Lots of artists use it to do old age pieces and monsters but I am trying to get a flawless appearance which then demands a lot more from me in the original sculpt, plus the molds have to be perfect too, so a lot more time is involved.

'Firecracker' with 50's sci fi and chinese dragon corset.

Is there any other material you can imagine that could make your artworks even more realistic than this?

I am experimenting with some translucent resins that show some promising results, we shall see.

'Dominadoll' 6 1/2 ft tall sneak peek Opera show NY.

What are you working on right now?

Sas and I are working on our show in Feb in NY at Opera Gallery, right now I am finishing a piece based on Nefertiti as a space ship pilot and a large glowing chair based on pollen.

I was wondering if you ever thought of changing the structure of your site?
Its very well written; I love what youve got to say.
But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could
connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or 2 images.
Maybe you could space it out better?

You really make it appear really easy with your presentation
but I to find this matter to be really one thing that
I feel I'd by no means understand. It seems too complex and very broad for me. I am taking a look forward in your subsequent publish, I'll try to get the grasp of it!
